Our Unique Educational Approach
Nature Based Play
We believe it is critical for all our of students to have time outside each day. All of our students will have at least 60 minutes of outdoor play time each day.
We are lucky to have 6 outdoor play spaces which provide the perfect play spaces for our toddlers and our preschoolers. We have carefully prepared our outdoor environment to allow for gross motor exploration such as climbing, sliding, biking and running. We also support fine motor skill development through sand and water play outdoors. All of our playgrounds have dramatic play areas with mud kitchens, baby dolls and shelters. Our playgrounds also offer quiet spaces to read or create art while outdoors.
We have worked hard to make our outdoor spaces an extension of our indoor learning.

5 Star Colorado Shines Rated Program
We are proud to be a Colorado Shines 5 Star Rated Program. This is the highest level of quality that a program can achieve in the State of Colorado. Colorado Shines rates Colorado’s early learning program and also helps to connect families to high quality early learning programs throughout the state. We are a Colorado Shines Level 5 rated program which shows our commitment to the health and safety of the children in our program, ensuring our staff are well trained and effective, providing a supportive early learning environment and helping our families to be active in their children’s learning.
The Children’s World School was founded in 2019 by Monica Sommer and Elizabeth Lamb. We are a mother daughter team who were driven by our passion for education to open up our own Early Childhood Education program. We had a dream to create a play based preschool with a global perspective that would serve children ages 1-5 in Lakewood. We felt there was a need for a high quality early childhood program in our area that allowed for flexibility of schedules for parents. We are proud to have been open for 5 years and look forward to sharing our school with you!
Our approach to early childhood education...
Our educational philosophy evolved from our passion to teach and guide young children to get excited about learning. It has always been our goal to do all that we can to provide children and their families with a solid early childhood education. It is imperative to provide a safe and supportive environment that allows the children to explore the world.
In using a play-based approach to teaching, the goal is to provide a setting in which children are encouraged to be curious and to discover their own conclusion. We want to support teachers to provide purposeful and intentional guidance to support learning. We value lifelong learning and want to instill that same value in the children we work with. At The Children’s World School we believe that it is important to foster their curiosity and to nurture their passion.
A successful program is one that develops meaningful partnerships with the families, as well as with the community. It is our responsibility as early childhood educators to build a bridge between home and school that shows children they are supported, accepted and important. We want each child and their family to feel a sense of belonging which will help to build positive self-esteem in each child.
